The founder
Hi, I'm Mickel.
I was born and raised on Roatán — 21 years on this island. I started working in tourism at 16, juggling school and a job in 2021 while classes were still online and the cruise ships had just begun returning.
My first job was at an animal sanctuary, and that's where I fell in love with tourism. I loved people coming to the place I lived — telling them how I grew up here, watching that burst of curiosity on their faces when I explained what life on a tropical island actually looks like.
Eventually school got overwhelming and I had to leave that job. But I didn't leave tourism. I found work with another company, this time meeting people straight off the cruise ships — busloads of thirty people, thirty different backgrounds, taking them all around the island. I absolutely loved it.
That's what led me to build ROC. I wanted people to have easy access to the island — to skip the big corporations, skip the hassle, and actually connect with the locals who tell the real story of Roatán. If you want an authentic experience, you have to talk to someone authentic. That's why this exists.

Every business in the ROC database is there because I know their work is good — not because they paid to be listed. I've grown up around these people. I know which dive operator watches out for beginners, which driver is on time every time, and which kitchen is worth the walk.
